Jerree and the Mystery of the Hole

It was early in the fall and Jerree and his old bud, Roscoe, wuz out alooking fer new spots fer their tree stands fer the deer season.  It wuz a fine day and they warn't in no hurry, just astrolling along enjoying the sites.  Well, about mid-day they come acrost a big hole.  Roscoe picked up a pebble and dropped it over the side to judge just how deep the hole wuz.  They listened but didn't hear a thang.  Jerree said, "maybe that rock wuz too small, let's try a bigger one".   So he picked up a larger stone and dropped it over the side of the hole.  Once again... nothing... no sound at all.  Well, looking over to the side of the clearing Roscoe saw a railroad crosstie and said, "Jerree, let's drop that crosstie down the  hole.  I bet that sucker will make some noise when it hits bottom!

So  they wrestled that crosstie over to the hole and dropped it in.  Just as they dropped that crosstie a commotion started up in the brush to their left and  looking over there to their amazement out come a goat heading full bore toward that hole.  He wuz traveling like he had jet afterburners on.   He got to the hole, gave a little rise in the air and went straight down that hole.   Well,  Jerree and Roscoe just stood there wide eyed and their jaws a-hanging down, mouths wide open.  Finally,  looking at one another,  they shrugged and started off back the way they come.   But, before they could get outa the clearing, an old man came out of the woods.  Seeing the boys he asked if they had seen a goat.  So, Jerree told him about the goat they had seen.   The old man looked at them and shaking his head said, "Well, that couldn't been my goat,  he's tied to a railroad crosstie".
